DSG Tuning
DSG has a Transmission Control Unit similar to the Engine Control Unit that controls the operation of the transmission. The TCU and ECU communicate with each other to ensure that the correct gear is selected for the current driving conditions and cross-reference some outputs, such as actual engine torque, between the TCU and ECU to keep the system under control. ECU Tuning has been determined to be the first part performed in improving engine performance, but there comes a point where the TCU's transmission torque limit is reached and the ECU intervenes to reduce torque and safety measures are taken. One of the primary functions of a DSG/TCU Tuning is to allow more torque to be transferred through the Engine and Transmission resulting in more power and torque throughout the entire rev range (depending on the vehicle model), it can also be modified to improve the overall driving experience.
